Stationery and Food Packs

Januworry 2024 had us getting back to the areas we feed. But, it's tough to expect the dogs and cats to be eating when there's no food in the home. So we've done quite a few grocery shopping trips. We have also been approached by quite a few families to help out with stationery packs for school and again, one delivers the stationery only to find that it's not going to help if the learner is going to school on an empty stomach.

Instruments

The Handevat Music Project is committed to developing learners and broadening their horizons through participation in music activities, as well as creating opportunities for people from different communities to come together.

We have been able, through donations, to pay forward a piano and recorders, as well as sheet music and books.

Ms Dobby Bones

Ms Dobby Bones was handed over to us during a steri day in Grabouw (April 2023), and were told that her mother stepped on her and broke both her front legs. At 3 months old and a supposedly Boerboel/Ridgeback cross, she was severely thin and super tiny. We rushed her off to the vet and found that her legs weren't broken but was malformed due to an early onset of rickets and that she was dangerously malnourished, weighing in at only 2,4 kg! With some dewormer, tick 'n flea treatment, sunshine, loves, cuddles and great food, she picked up 500g in her first week and flourished into a gorgeous dog, weighing a whopping 35kg at 11 months old!

Belsie

In October 2023, Belsie was booked for a sterilisation, but we realised something was seriously wrong with her whilst driving her to the vet. Our concerns were confirmed when the vet diagnosed the dreaded Parvo! Parvo treatment does not have a great success rate but whilst standing debating her future, she wagged her tail at us and those gorgeous eyes looked at us and we were suddenly hunting for a vet. We were not being successful getting in right away so Dr Koba asked and the wonderful folk at Animal Welfare Helderberg immediately agreed to assist and off we went! Our patient was put on a drip and after a week in hospital, we received a call that she was ready to go home. We received several pics and a video of her playing with her yard friend and a report that she ate well and slept well that night and ate breakfast the following. She lost a lot of weight but her family fed her good quality food and also bought yummy meat bits to add. Beautiful Belsie was sterilised in December 2023.

Noodles

Noodles is a Rottweiler Cross that we met on our rounds in Pineview, Grabouw. She was badly emaciated, and we worked with the family for quite some time, teaching them about proper nutrition and the importance of tick and flea management. The family came around to the program and stepped up their game in terms of looking after all their dogs. She was finally in good enough shape, and they agreed that we could sterilise, which was done in December 2023. We are very happy to see that Noodles is looking pretty good, and she now comes up to say hi and get some affection (and treats) whenever we are in her area.

Laptops

All donated laptops are wiped clean if needed, checked for functionality, internet connection and so on, before being handed over to a deserving student to assist them with their studies.

Pictured here, is Carol and our latest laptop recipient.

Gogga

At approximately 10 years old, Goggatjie was handed over to us for treatment. She suffered from a serious case of mange. With loads of love, good food and great meds, she recovered and turned into the cutest old lady ever. She was put up for adoption and is happily living her life, being treated to monthly grooms, walks on the beach and lots of treats.
